4：11上奏亚达薛西王说，河西的臣民云云。
This is the copy of the letter that they sent unto him； even unto Artaxerxes the king； Thy servants the men on this side the river； and at such a time。
4：12王该知道，从王那里上到我们这里的犹大人，已经到耶路撒冷重建，这反叛恶劣的城，筑立根基，建造城墙。
Be it known unto the king； that the Jews which came up from thee to us are e unto Jerusalem； building the rebellious and the bad city； and have set up the walls thereof； and joined the foundations。
4：13如今王该知道，他们若建造这城，城墙完毕就不再与王进贡，交课，纳税，终久王必受亏损。
Be it known now unto the king； that； if this city be builded； and the walls set up again； then will they not pay toll； tribute； and custom； and so thou shalt endamage the revenue of the kings。
4：14我们既食御盐，不忍见王吃亏，因此奏告于王。
Now because we have maintenance from the king's palace； and it was not meet for us to see the king's dishonour； therefore have we sent and certified the king；
4：15请王考察先王的实录，必在其上查知这城是反叛的城，与列王和各省有害。自古以来，其中常有悖逆的事，因此这城曾被拆毁。
That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers： so shalt thou find in the book of the records； and know that this city is a rebellious city； and hurtful unto kings and provinces； and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time： for which cause was this city destroyed。
4：16我们谨奏王知，这城若再建造，城墙完毕，河西之地王就无分了。
We certify the king that； if this city be builded again； and the walls thereof set up； by this means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river。
4：17那时王谕覆省长利宏，书记伸帅，和他们的同党，就是住撒玛利亚并河西一带地方的人，说，愿你们平安云云。
Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the chancellor； and to Shimshai the scribe； and to the rest of their panions that dwell in Samaria； and unto the rest beyond the river； Peace； and at such a time。
4：18你们所上的本，已经明读在我面前。
The letter which ye sent unto us hath been plainly read before me。
4：19我已命人考查，得知此城古来果然背叛列王，其中常有反叛悖逆的事。
And I manded； and search hath been made； and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings； and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein。
4：20从前耶路撒冷也有大君王统管河西全地，人就给他们进贡，交课，纳税。
There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem； which have ruled over all countries beyond the river； and toll； tribute； and custom； was paid unto them。
4：21现在你们要出告示命这些人停工，使这城不得建造，等我降旨。
Give ye now mandment to cause these men to cease； and that this city be not builded； until another mandment shall be given from me。
4：22你们当谨慎，不可迟延，为何容害加重，使王受亏损呢。
Take heed now that ye fail not to do this： why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings？
4：23亚达薛西王的上谕读在利宏和书记伸帅，并他们的同党面前，他们就急忙往耶路撒冷去见犹大人，用势力强迫他们停工。
Now when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum； and Shimshai the scribe； and their panions； they went up in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews； and made them to cease by force and power。
4：24于是，在耶路撒冷神殿的工程就停止了，直停到波斯王大流士第二年。
Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem。 So it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia。

5：1那时，先知哈该，和易多的孙子撒迦利亚，奉以色列神的名向犹大和耶路撒冷的犹大人说劝勉的话。
Then the prophets； Haggai the prophet； and Zechariah the son of Iddo； prophesied unto the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel； even unto them。
5：2于是撒拉铁的儿子所罗巴伯，和约萨达的儿子耶书亚，都起来动手建造耶路撒冷神的殿，有神的先知在那里帮助他们。
Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel； and Jeshua the son of Jozadak； and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem： and with them were the prophets of God helping them。
5：3当时河西的总督达乃和示他波斯乃，并他们的同党来问说，谁降旨让你们建造这殿，修成这墙呢。
At the same time came to them Tatnai； governor on this side the river； and Shetharboznai； and their panions； and said thus unto them； Who hath manded you to build this house； and to make up this wall？
5：4我们便告诉他们建造这殿的人叫什么名字。
Then said we unto them after this manner； What are the names of the men that make this building？
5：5神的眼目看顾犹大的长老，以致总督等没有叫他们停工，直到这事奏告大流士得着他的回谕。
But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews； that they could not cause them to cease； till the matter came to Darius： and then they returned answer by letter concerning this matter。
5：6河西的总督达乃和示他波斯乃，并他们的同党，就是住河西的亚法萨迦人，上本奏告大流士王。
The copy of the letter that Tatnai； governor on this side the river； and Shetharboznai； and his panions the Apharsachites； which were on this side the river； sent unto Darius the king：
5：7本上写着说，愿大流士王诸事平安。
They sent a letter unto him； wherein was written thus； Unto Darius the king； all peace。
5：8王该知道，我们往犹大省去，到了至大神的殿，这殿是用大石建造的。梁木插入墙内，工作甚速，他们手下亨通。
Be it known unto the king； that we went into the province of Judea； to the house of the great God； which is builded with great stones； and timber is laid in the walls； and this work goeth fast on； and prospereth in their hands。
5：9我们就问那些长老说，谁降旨让你们建造这殿，修成这墙呢。
Then asked we those elders； and said unto them thus； Who manded you to build this house； and to make up these walls？
5：10又问他们的名字，要记录他们首领的名字，奏告于王。
We asked their names also； to certify thee； that we might write the names of the men that were the chief of them。
5：11他们回答说，我们是天地之神的仆人，重建前多年所建造的殿，就是以色列的一位大君王建造修成的。
And thus they returned us answer； saying； We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth； and build the house that was builded these many years ago； which a great king of Israel builded and set up。
5：12只因我们列祖惹天上的神发怒，神把他们交在迦勒底人，巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒的手中，他就拆毁这殿，又将百姓掳到巴比伦。
